Year of the Snake: Shedding the bad and entering a new era for yourself

Year of the Snake: Shedding the bad and entering a new era for yourself

I don’t know about you, but this year started out tough in the political environment, and personally, the start of March was a tough one. Talking to other friends and colleagues and seeing stories of others it sounds like it’s been tough for a lot of people for many different reasons and experiences. What does that mean for the rest of the year?

Remembering it is the year of the snake is a good metaphor for approaching the year. If things are happening to you that are challenging or feeling stuck, think of it as if you're in the middle of a shed. Snakes tend to shed their old skin, and once they do have fresh new skin, they facilitate their growth, remove damage, and heal.

What are some things you need to grow, remove, or even heal for yourself? If you’re struggling this year, maybe this is a time to reflect on what you need for yourself. Think about what parts of your life you need to shed, whether in your social life, online, work, personal growth, family, etc.

Remember, like real snakes, never force your shed too early. Let it happen naturally. If you forcefully shed a snake when it’s not ready, it can harm them. So think of that for yourself: don't force change unless you’re ready or need gentle support. It’s okay to be patient and ask for help if needed. Do your best to process your needs and be able to shed and renew parts of yourself that need that refreshment.
