Oracle Pull of the Month: The Bee
Oracle Deck: Threads of Fate Shadow Edition
Oracle Card: Soul Work
Symbol: The Bee
Message: “Navigating our day-to-day life. Call upon bee when you are in the liminal space between knowing and action.”
Reflection: Today’s oracle card, Soul Work, has me reflecting on the soul work my clients have been doing in their therapeutic sessions– “Is school for me?” “Is this job for me?” “Is it too late? Am I too old to change the direction of my life?” “Do I have to get married before 30?” “Do I have to have children?” “What is my life’s purpose?”
As I reflect on purpose, I notice a pressure in my heart and I recognize there is a discourse weighing on me, a discourse that I find often weighs on my clients as well. What is that discourse? The discourse is what we’ve been taught our purpose should be. For example, we are often pressured to have a higher education, to prove our self worth through productivity, or to create a heteronormative family and live a heteronormative life style. But what if the expectations of these discourses are not congruent with your personal values? What if they do more harm than good? What if the discourse creates unmanageable anxiety, doubt, not enoughness, or a lack of self-worth?
Challenging the Discourse: As my clients and I have been traveling down the path of mental health, we explore the question: “Does our purpose need to be static and set in stone? Can our purpose be fluid? Can our purpose change every day?” The deeper we go into what purpose is, the more we realize that the discourses we’ve learned in life have limited our ability to imagine new possibilities that may be more authentic to ourselves.
“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.”
– James Clear, Power of Atomic Habits
Reflection Questions: I’d like us to take the time to slow down and consider these questions:
Are you moving toward your goals or the goals you’ve been taught to have?
What is one thing you can intentionally do for yourself today?
How might you take one step toward the type of person you wish to become?
